TOMODACHI Leaders of the Next Generation at U.S.-Japan Council Annual Conference

On October 28, over 50 U.S.-Japan Council and TOMODACHI program participants, including TOMODACHI Alumni Regional Representatives, attended the Annual Conference. Many had the chance to fly from the U.S. to participate in the event and enjoyed the reunion. The day before the conference, all attended a networking skill development workshop. On the day of the Annual Conference, two TOMODACHI program alumni gave speeches at the closing plenary.

The Program Explored Breaking Down Barriers and Highlighting through Digital Storytelling

On November 11, 2022, TOMODACHI Story Jam for Youth with Disabilities concluded its 9-week digital storytelling and youth leadership program. At a final event, the youth’s 5-minute advocacy story videos were shown and shared how new learning leadership, storytelling, and advocacy skills can be utilized in their lives in the future. The Virtual Programs Prepare Students for Living and Conducting Research in the U.S.

Lehigh University and Rice University launched the 2022-23 TOMODACHI-STEM Women’s Leadership and Research Program with a series of virtual workshops and cultural exchanges in September. The program consists of two sections: a virtual program from September 6 through September 19 and an in-person research experience from February 12 through March 145, 2023. The virtual program prepared them for the challenges of living and conducting research in the U.S. Read More>>

2022 Next Generation Summit

On October 27th, 2022, the Next Generation Summit 2022 took place for the first time in a hybrid style under the theme of “the Next Age of Leadership” in Tokyo. Including participants from the U.S. in the Next Generation Summit, and Over 100 participants gathered both in-person and virtually, including TOMODACHI alumni, donors, supporters and guests.  Read More>>

<Rimpei Takahashi>

Rimpei Takahashi is an alumnus of the 2015 TOMODACHI St. Louis-Ishinomaki Grassroots Exchange Program. He met U.S.-Japan Council founder Irene Hirano Inoue and her words, “You are the future leaders of Tohoku and of Japan. You are the future.” pushed him to challenge youth in the Tohoku region. He made a speech at the 2002 U.S.-Japan Council’s Annual Conference in Tokyo on October 28. Read His Speach>>

<Jennifer Butler>

Jennifer Butler is a TOMODACHI alumna of the TOMODACHI-Mitsui & Co. Leadership Program in 2014. Although she is passionate about education, she feels hard to see sometimes what the results. Education is more like a long-term investment, and she thinks believing in students' potential and future is key.  In this interview, Jennifer gave advice to students who have struggled to find what they want to do in the future. Interns, U.S.-Japan Council (Japan) & TOMODACHI Initiative (remote)

The U.S.-Japan Council (Japan) and the TOMODACHI Initiative are currently seeking interns. The internship offers an exciting environment where interns will be exposed to the non-profit, corporate, and government fields simultaneously. Responsibilities include creating and drafting documents, translation, website management, social media management, newsletter development support, public speaking, communication with program participants, designing presentations and posters, and event planning. Please note that this internship is unpaid.

Program Intern, TOMODACHI Initiative Alumni (remote)

The Program Intern will assist the Director of Programs and Partnerships for the U.S.-Japan Council and the TOMODACHI Alumni Coordinator in the area of programming for the TOMODACHI Initiative Alumni Leadership Program. Reports to the Director of Programs and Partnerships for the U.S.-Japan Council. This position requires conveying and dispersing information from TOMODACHI Alumni Affairs to the TOMODACHI alumni community, as well as the broader U.S.-Japan Council community.
