TOMODACHI Goldman Sachs Music Outreach Program
The TOMODACHI Goldman Sachs Music Outreach Program aims to have Japanese and American youths communicate through the universal language of music and performing arts and to have the participants deepen cultural and self-understanding. Since the program started in 2013, it has provided the students in Tohoku with performing workshops consisting of singing, dancing, and pantomiming with an American performing education group.
This program is funded by Goldman Sachs Gives.
TOMODACHI Goldman Sachs Music Outreach Program 2024
On August 24, 2024, the TOMODACHI Goldman Sachs Music Outreach Program held a one-day workshop for children from care facilities. A total of 72 participants, ranging from first graders to high school seniors, joined the event from Tokyo, Chiba, Kanagawa, and Ibaraki.
In the workshop, participants collaborated with 29 cast members from the HEART Global, a U.S.-based nonprofit, to create a musical performance. The goal of the workshop was to allow participants to experience the joy of embracing new challenges, discover the excitement of working together with people they have just met, and expand their horizons by interacting with people of different ages, nationalities, backgrounds, and cultures. This workshop also served as a volunteer program for employees of Goldman Sachs.

TOMODACHI Goldman Sachs Music Outreach Program 2023
On July 21, the TOMODACHI Goldman Sachs Music Outreach Program was held at Yoyogi Yamano Hall.
Twenty-nine cast members from HEART Global, a U.S. non-profit organization, and 70 children ranging in grades from 1st grade of elementary school to senior year in high school gathered from foster care facilities in Tokyo, Chiba, and Kanagawa to participate in a song and dance workshop with 35 employees from the facilities and 15 Goldman Sachs volunteers. On October 17 and 18, 2023, the TOMODACHI Goldman Sachs Music Outreach Program was held at Shogan Higashi Junior High School in Sendai, Miyagi and 98 third graders participated. TOMODACHI Goldman Sachs Music Outreach Program 2022
The TOMODACHI Goldman Sachs Music Outreach Program was held from October 26, 2022, with approximately 480 students participating in a song and dance workshop.
This time, cast members from HEART Global, an expressive education organization, visited four elementary and junior high schools in Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture and Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture, for seven days to conduct performance workshops. At each school, the cast and students presented a show at the end of the workshop, which fascinated the parents. Read More>>

From September to November of 2019, the Young Americans conducted six workshops through the TOMODACHI Goldman Sachs Music Outreach Program. Over these two months, they visited public elementary and junior high schools in Iwate and Fukushima Prefectures in the Tohoku region. In 2019, this music outreach program was held six times at six different elementary and junior high schools, welcoming over 500 student and faculty participants. TOMODACHI Goldman Sachs Roadshow 2015
The TOMODACHI Goldman Sachs Roadshow was held in the Tohoku region from September 8-25, 2015. Fifteen American youth from the nonprofit organization, Young Americans, conducted song and dance workshops at public and private elementary and junior high schools in 16 municipalities in the three prefectures (Iwate, Miyagi, Fukushima) affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake in March 11, 2011. Approximately 3,280 students participated in this two-week program and learned the pleasure of expressing themselves, while gaining confidence and deepened their interest in learning English and about the United States.
TOMODACHI Goldman Sachs Roadshow 2014
The TOMODACHI Goldman Sachs Roadshow 2014 launched on September 11, 2014 beginning with Yanome Elementary school in Fukushima City. In the Fall of 2014, fifteen Young American cast members conducted workshops at public elementary and middle schools throughout the disaster affected areas of Iwate, Miyagi and Fukushima prefectures.
Within two and a half months, the Young Americans conducted workshops with 3,000 children in 49 elementary and junior high schools. As of October 21 2014, approximately 1,500 students and 130 teachers had participated in the workshop. Remarks from the students included: “I would like to know about overseas more through international exchanges”. “If I were able to speak English more, that would be great.” “I am very happy that I knew I can sing and dance”. TOMODACHI Goldman Sachs Young Americans One Day Workshop Launched for Children in Foster Care
On July 28, 2014, the TOMODACHI Goldman Sachs Young Americans One Day Workshop, funded by Goldman Sachs Gives, was held at the Yamano Hall at the Yamano Beauty College in Yoyogi, Tokyo. Participants included 64 children from elementary to high school who are from 16 separate foster care facilities and 4 institution staff. More>>

TOMODACHI Gold Star Roadshow 2013
Funded by Goldman Sachs Gives, the TOMODACHI Gold Star Roadshow — Young Americans Mini Workshop Tour is comprised of 15 Young American cast members who toured more than 30 elementary and middle schools of Fukushima, Miyagi, and Iwate prefecture between September 8 – November 14, 2013. Each musical workshop was three hours long to 50-100, in which the children were given a chance to express themselves through music and by learning singing and dancing.
