Morgan Stanley Becomes a Proud Sponsor of the TOMODACHI Initiative
June 19, 2013 – Morgan Stanley Japan Holdings Co., Ltd. announced today that it has become a sponsor of the TOMODACHI Initiative, a groundbreaking public-private partnership launched following the Great East Japan Earthquake to invest in the next generation of Japanese and American leaders and strengthen the cultural and economic ties between the United States and Japan.
Morgan Stanley’s contribution supports an exciting new program, “Building the TOMODACHI Generation: A Partnership to Engage U.S. and Japanese University Students in Social Problem-Solving,” a two-week program in Washington, D.C. that brings Japanese and American university students together for leadership training and to jointly develop civil society models to help rebuild the Tohoku region. This program was originally made possible through the TOMODACHI Fund for Exchanges, established with financial support from Mitsubishi Corporation, Toyota Motor Corporation, and Hitachi, Ltd. With today’s gift to TOMODACHI, Morgan Stanley joins these leading Japanese corporations in expanding the program’s reach, and ensuring Japanese university students will have this opportunity to study alongside American students through 2016.
“Morgan Stanley has been consistently impressed with the TOMODACHI Initiative, and shares its goals of promoting the Japan-U.S. relationship on various levels,” said Jonathan B. Kindred, President and CEO of Morgan Stanley Japan Holdings. “As a Firm that is fully committed to Japan, we are honored to join the initiative and to support the TOMODACHI Generation program.”
“We are delighted to have Morgan Stanley join the impressive list of organizations and individuals who have made such important contributions to the success of the TOMODACHI Initiative,” noted U.S. Ambassador to Japan John V. Roos. “As we further expand the opportunities for Japanese and American young people to connect with each other through TOMODACHI, the support of internationally-minded companies like Morgan Stanley will play a huge role. I thank them for their generous support.” For more information on this program, click here.
