Morgan Stanley Extends “Building the TOMODACHI Generation” Program
“Morgan Stanley Ambassadors Program”
to Continue Developing Next Generation of Leaders
TOKYO September 30, 2019 – Morgan Stanley Japan Holdings Co., Ltd. today announced that it and the TOMODACHI Initiative, a public-private partnership between the U.S.-Japan Council and the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo, will extend their partnership to invest in the next generation of leaders in the two countries through the “Building the TOMODACHI Generation” program.
Morgan Stanley will continue to sponsor the “Building the TOMODACHI Generation: Morgan Stanley Ambassadors Program”, a leadership-training and cross-cultural exchange program for Japanese and American university students. During the two-week intensive program in Washington, D.C., 12 Japanese and 9 U.S. students address social challenges through enhancing their understanding of civil society, teamwork and global collaboration skills. As part of the program, the students will develop an initiative or project to support the long-term recovery of Japan’s Tohoku region that was affected by the Great East Japan earthquake in 2011.
Morgan Stanley was the sole sponsor of this three-year-long program since 2017, and will renew this partnership for another three years from 2020 to 2022. The Firm previously joined three leading Japanese corporations to support the similar program between 2014 and 2016.
“Morgan Stanley is pleased to extend our partnership with the TOMODACHI Initiative in this important program to nurture the next-generation leaders with cross-cultual understanding in Japan and the U.S.,” said Alberto Tamura, President and CEO of Morgan Stanley Japan Holdings Co., Ltd. “As our Firm will celebrate the 50th year of operations in Japan next year, we continue to be deeply committed to developing and building young leaders of the future.”
“We are extremely honored to partner with Morgan Stanely to invest in young leaders of tomorrow together,” said Irene Hirano-Inouye, President of the U.S.-Japan Council. “The program brings together Japanese and American university students, to network and acquire entrepreneurial and civic mindsets. We have no doubt that the program will help them to be better leaders.”
