“Ray of Hope” Tohoku Baseball Project
From July 29-August 1, 2016, selected junior high school students from the disaster-affected areas of Kesennuma and Minami-Sanriku, Miyagi prefecture, will travel to Tokyo for a baseball camp with Japanese and American students in Tokyo. The baseball camp will be led by a former Major League Baseball (MLB) player, in addition to a boot camp by U.S. military that are currently assigned to the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo.
This baseball exchange will provide opportunities for approximately 40 students in Tohoku and Tokyo to build relationships through baseball training, watching a professional baseball game together, meeting professional baseball players, and attending a barbecue.
The project is led by Hands on Tokyo, a bilingual volunteer organization that serves the needs of the community by creating and providing volunteer engagement programs.
