New England Region Panel Discussion: Disaster Resilience in Japan and the U.S.

On December 3rd, the New England region was delighted to host a panel discussion in partnership with Northeastern University’s Department of Political Science. We welcomed alumni, USJC members, as well as participants from NEU for an engaging and thoughtful panel discussion exploring disaster resilience in Japan and the US, totaling 20 in attendance.

The event began with opening remarks from the New England Regional Rep, Felix Garcia, and USJC member, Shalini Matharage, who moderated the discussion featuring Dr. Daniel Aldrich (Northeastern University) and Dr. Toshiaki Yoshida (Harvard University). Both speakers shared insights from their research on community resilience, social infrastructure, and lessons learned from disaster experiences in the U.S. and Japan.
It was a meaningful evening that underscored the importance of cross-national learning and the value of collaboration within our community!
