Pāpale Lau Niu and the Spirit of Aloha: Hawaii Region TOMODACHI Alumni Event
On Sunday, June 29th, 2025, TOMODACHI alumni and friends from the Hawai’i region gathered at Magic Island Beach Park for a beautiful day of socializing and learning how to make their very own a pāpale lau niu (hat made out of woven coconut fronds). With support and instructions from Kumu/Sensei Jaime Abrazado, attendees were guided in learning the art and culture of weaving while sharing their favorite life quotes and relating the weaving of their niu, to the friendships and connections they weave as alumni and members of the Hawai’i Region. Extra special thanks again to Jaime for being such a wonderful guide, and creating a fun, meaningful space for us to share together!
