Elementary and Junior High School Students Try Song and Dance Show

The TOMODACHI Goldman Sachs Music Outreach Program was held from October 26, 2022, with approximately 480 students participating in a song and dance workshop.

This program was launched in 2013 to support children in Fukushima, Miyagi, and Iwate prefectures affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake. Due to the impact of the spread of the new coronavirus infection, the program was suspended after the last program held in 2019 but has now resumed.

This time, cast members from HEART Global, an expressive education organization, visited four elementary and junior high schools in Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture and Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture, for seven days to conduct performance workshops. At each school, the cast and students presented a show at the end of the workshop, which fascinated the parents.

To prevent the spread of corona infection, all students wore masks for the performance. One of the principals commented, “While we have not completely healed from the wounds of the earthquake, the spread of corona infection has prevented many school events, and there have been very few occasions for the children to release their energy. I am thrilled that the children could free their minds and regain their wonderful smiles this time. After the show, children commented, “It was so much fun. I felt closer to overseas” and “I didn’t think I could do such a good job,” they said with smiles.
