U.S.-Japan Council and U.S. Embassy in Tokyo to Have Joint Office
at Workspace Community WeWork Tokyu Yotsuya
TOKYO, May 20, 2019－The U.S. Japan Council’s TOMODACHI Initiative announced that the U.S.-Japan Council has formed a partnership with the Embassy of the United States in Tokyo to host events and programming at WeWork Japan G.K. locations across Japan, while based at WeWork Tokyu Yotsuya.
WeWork is a workspace community for innovative companies, entrepreneurs, and professional creatives. The TOMODACHI Initiative will arrange events and activities with support from the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo, and provide a space for next generation leaders and leading innovators of the WeWork network to share their interests with one another. By using this community space, TOMODACHI aims to create new networks and develop innovative mindsets among young Japanese and American leaders.
Embassy of the United States Minister-Counselor for Public Affairs Carolyn Glassman said, “Our partnership with WeWork and the U.S.-Japan Council is a big step forward in our new strategy to expand the reach of all aspects of U.S. Embassy programs. We are excited to work with our TOMODACHI partners, as well as a leading U.S. business investing in Japan, in creating new ways to connect the people of Japan with the United States.”

About the TOMODACHI Initiative
The TOMODACHI Initiative is a public-private partnership between the U.S.-Japan Council and the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo, with support from the Government of Japan. Born out of support for Japan’s recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake, TOMODACHI invests in the next generation of Japanese and American leaders through educational and cultural exchanges as well as leadership programs.
