Japanese NGO Leaders Prepare for the InterAction Forum Study Tour 2014
On May 30 2014, the participants of the TOMODACHI NGO Leadership Program supported by J.P. Morgan had an orientation for the InterAction Forum Study Tour. The participants, who are NGO leaders in both domestic and international fields, travel to Washington D.C. from June 8-14 to represent Japanese NGOs at the InterAction Forum. During this orientation, they explained the fields they work in and what they hope to take away from the trip.
Keiko Kiyama, who is participating in this tour as the head of the delegation, described her hope to raise the status of Japanese NGO staff. She stated that NGO staff often struggle to convince others that they are worthwhile to work with, and she hopes to learn how they can change that situation. Many NGO leaders also expressed their desire to learn how they can coordinate effectively with other NGOs in the same field to provide humanitarian assistance.
