TOMODACHI, Wendy’s Japan Announce The “TOMODACHI Burger”
March 28, 2013 – The TOMODACHI Initiative and Wendy’s Japan are proud to announce a special campaign to create a “TOMODACHI Burger” in Spring 2013. Symbolizing the deep friendship between Japan and the United States, the “TOMODACHI Burger” will be sold at Wendy’s three Tokyo-area stores for six weeks beginning on April 26, 2013. A portion of the proceeds from each burger sale will be donated to the TOMODACHI Initiative in order to support a wide range of exchange programs for young people in Japan.
In advance of the April 26 launch, members of the public are invited to submit their ideas to create the best burger, including toppings and ingredients. The winner of the contest will receive an invitation to take part in the April 26 launch event.

U.S. Ambassador to Japan John V. Roos stated, “It is our great pleasure to team up with Wendy’s Japan to offer this delicious new addition to their menu – and, at the same time, to offer expanded opportunities for the young people of Japan to follow their dreams. This new campaign is yet another example of the strong ties that connect our two countries.”
Wendy’s Japan Chairman Ernest M. Higa said, “The TOMODACHI Burger is Wendy’s way of giving something back to the two countries that have made our dreams possible, a heartfelt and delicious ‘thank you’ to the people of Japan and the United States and a symbol of our hope for the bright future of both countries.”
TOMODACHI is a public-private partnership, led by the United States Government and the U.S.-Japan Council and supported by the Japanese Government, that supports Japan’s recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake and invests in the next generation of Japanese and Americans in ways that strengthen cultural and economic ties and deepen the friendship between the United States and Japan over the long-term.
