Glenn Miller Orchestra Performs Charity Concerts in Kesennuma

On November 25, 2012 the world-renowned Glenn Miller Orchestra held two charity concerts with local youth at Hamanasu Hall in Kesennuma City, Miyagi Prefecture.

About 600 local residents of Kesennuma and Minami Sanriku who were affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake of 2011 were invited to the concert, along with students from Tsuya Junior High School and Seiwa Gakuen High School.

The students performed with the Glenn Miller Orchestra’s Music Director, Nick Hilscher in the opening act. Hilscher conducted a performance of the famous “Moonlight Serenade,” while other members of the Glenn Miller Orchestra came on stage to perform famous tunes such as “In the Mood” for a very enthusiastic audience. The students were very happy to have had the wonderful opportunity to be on stage and perform with the orchestra.

In addition to the performances of the Glenn Miller Orchestra, the high school swing jazz band “The Swing Dolphins” performed a number of songs. 

“We are very happy to partner with the TOMODACHI Initiative and to perform with the local youth of Kesennuma city,” said Hilscher. “We hope and pray for a quick restoration of this area.”
