TOMODACHI Alumni Regional Framework: Theme Event 2018 in Kanto Region (Team B)
On October 28, 2018, over ten people participated in the “TOMODACHI Book Making Event,” held in Shibuya Ward, Tokyo and led by Regional Leaders Risa Tanno and Yuuki Takashima with support from Regional Mentor Ginger Vaughn. The aim of the event was to ascertain the steps needed to reach each person’s life goals. Alumni thought about their own bucket lists of goals they would like to achieve in their lifetimes, as many young people today often do not have opportunities to visualize their dreams and life visions.
The event was broken up into three different parts. The first session started with book cover making, wherein the participants made colorful and unique book covers using various materials and shared their reasoning behind each design. The second part consisted of writing bucket lists of the goals they wanted to achieve in their lifetimes; not just superficial goals, but those that were truly significant. The participants thought about what they really want to achieve in their lifetimes and their reasons. The third and final part involved identifying both the immediate and longer-term steps they could take to spring into action and achieve their bucket lists.
One participant commented, “Writing my dreams in my own words highly motivated me to act rather than to just talk about them. Digging deeper into my dreams made me realize new points about my own dreams. My mentors were kind enough to think about my vague dreams and gave me good advice I hadn’t thought of before.”
Throughout the event, participants received motivational tips and had the opportunity to encourage one another . Regional Leaders Risa Tanno and Yuuki Takashima commented, “We believe that this bucket list book will make the alumni’s lives much more exciting, richer and shining with their own colors! We hope they step forward toward their own dreams!”
This event is part of the TOMODACHI Regional Framework, which is supported by the TOMODACHI Alumni Leadership Program supported by Prudential.
