TRF Event Recap: Okinawa

On January 17, Okinawa Region alumni gathered for a New Year’s “Art & Café” event that brought together reflection, meaningful dialogue, and community connection.
The group began the day by visiting the SHINGIIIIII exhibition, where participants reflected on the historical and cultural ties between Hawaii and Okinawa. The exhibit provided a thoughtful backdrop for conversations about identity, shared heritage, and the evolving relationship between the two island communities.
Following the exhibition, the group continued their discussions at a Hawaiian café, where conversations naturally expanded to include career journeys, personal growth, and the importance of staying connected through the alumni network.
A total of seven alumni and one guest—who expressed interest in becoming involved with the U.S.-Japan Council—participated in the gathering. The intimate size of the group created a welcoming atmosphere that allowed attendees to listen closely to one another’s stories and build deeper connections.
Looking ahead, organizers shared plans for an upcoming local event in March in celebration of International Women’s Day, as well as a Life Share Dinner later this year.
