Okinawa Regional Event Report
On August 23, 2025, Okinawa TOMODACHI Regional Framework hosted a Ryukyu Indigo Dyeing workshop and a networking event. It was wonderful to reconnect with alumni across programs, hearing about their new challenges, and making new friends.
Our participants shared their experiences:
Anna Nagamine said that “I was able to reconnect with my mentors and mentees and hear about their new challenges, which was very inspiring. I was also able to expand my network, which was a big gain for me.”
“Indigo dyeing is famous in my hometown of Tokushima, but this was my first time experiencing it here in Okinawa! It was so much fun to repeatedly dip the cloth and let it dry, while we all cheered for Okinawa Shogaku in the Koshien finals!” said Aya Hirata.
“My son and I attended the workshop. I was a little worried about bringing my child, but everyone was so welcoming. My son, who I thought was shy, showed a surprising side of himself. Thanks to everyone, we both had a wonderful time.” said Yuko Evening
It was great that everyone who joined the event shared their stories. They felt the joy of creating something with their own hands, the beauty of Okinawan culture, and the power of connection.
