Exciting Start to the TOMODACHI-Dow Women’s STEM Leadership and Research Program 2024-2025
Ten female students from universities across Japan have been selected for the TOMODACHI-Dow Women’s STEM Leadership and Research Program 2024-2025 at Rice University in Houston, Texas. This program includes several weeks of virtual sessions, followed by a five-week research internship. During their stay, the students will conduct STEM research at Rice University under the guidance of professors, engage in on- and off-campus activities with their peers, and explore potential career paths.
Currently, the students are participating in an online program to improve their English proficiency and cultural knowledge in preparation for the in-person program. They are also engaging in several one-on-one online conversations with female STEM students studying Japanese at Rice University. Reflecting on these interactions, the students shared, “I am pleased to know that my peer has similar research interests,” and “It has been a great opportunity to prepare myself for the in-person internship.”
The ten students will depart for Houston on February 8 and return on March 14, 2025. During their time there, they will collaborate with local and international researchers and students, broadening their knowledge in STEM, DE&I, and beyond. Please join us in supporting this group of ten emerging leaders!
