On August 8th, the New England region welcomed President & CEO of the U.S-Japan Council, Audrey Yamamoto, to Boston. The day began with an exclusive meeting at the Boston Japanese Consulate office between Audrey, New England USJC co-chairs Heike Boeltzig-Brown and Chris Pilcavage, New England TOMODACHI Alumni Rep Felix Garcia and Consul General Kotaro Suzuki. We discussed the activities of the Council and exchanged views on how to strengthen the Japan-US relationship in the New England region.

In the afternoon, TOMODACHI alums and distinguished members of the U.S.-Japan Council gathered at the Museum of Fine Arts for an exclusive tour of “Songs for Modern Japan” exhibit, led by the museum’s knowledgeable curators Sarah Thompson and Anne Nishimura Morse, which offered an in-depth exploration of music and works of graphical design that highlight the interplay between international artistic trends and the impact of modernity on Japanese culture and design.

The day concluded with an evening reception at Berklee College of Music, which provided an intimate space for meaningful dialogue, encouraging informal conversations and networking among attendees. Guests enjoyed opening remarks by Audrey that offered an inspiring overview of the Council’s mission and recent initiatives. Followed by Japanese Consul General Suzuki delivering a heartfelt toast, celebrating the enduring partnership between the U.S. and Japan. We had 25 in total attendance throughout the day and are so honored for the opportunity to have hosted Audrey and welcome her to our region!
