TOMODACHI Matsue-New Orleans Grassroots Exchange participants explore Jazz Music and US History in New Orleans
Nine delegates from Matsue, Shimane prefecture spent ten days in New Orleans, Louisiana as part of the TOMODACHI Matsue-New Orleans Grassroots Exchange Program. Their visit began with a welcome reception hosted by and at the home of Honorary Consul General for Japan, Mrs Donna Fraiche. Consul Saori Nagase of the Consulate General of Japan in Nashville, TN was also in attendance. This program supports the 20 year sister city relationship between New Orleans and Matsue City.
The theme of the exchange is the history of Jazz and the American South. During their visit delegates lived with local families, attended a number of local festivals including Satchmo festival, explored the French Quarter, visited local radio station, and joined in local activities such as a night of bowling with all the host families.
