2014 Partnership Dow Japan―TOMODACHI Initiative
On April 2, 2014, Dow Japan announced the launch of a new partnership with the TOMODACHI Initiative, a public-private partnership led by the U.S. Government and the U.S.-Japan Council that aims to invest in the next generation of Japanese and Americans by creating opportunities for cross-cultural exchange, entrepreneurship and leadership that enhance long-term competitiveness and strengthen connections between the two countries.
Fostering STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education is one of Dow’s goals across the globe. In Japan specifically, student exchange from Japan to the United States has decreased by over 50% in the last decade. Dow Japan’s partnership with the TOMODACHI Initiative will seek to enhance educational exchange opportunities between the United States and Japan, in areas such as science, technology, engineering and mathematics, particularly for young women.
Peter Jennings, President of Dow Japan comments “We are both honored and thrilled to begin a long and successful partnership with TOMODACHI. Empowering future generations in the education area, and helping enable future scientists and engineers, through educational opportunities such as STEM, clearly aligns with Dow’s strategic agenda. Programs with TOMODACHI will support Dow’s investment in the area, as well as foster a strong relationship between Japan and the U.S. for the future “
