High school students from the first “TOMODACHI Toshizo Watanabe Leadership Program” traveled to the U.S.
|
|
From August 10 to 20, 2022, the inaugural TOMODACHI Toshizo Watanabe Leadership Program was held, and fourteen high school students from all over Japan participated in the program in California. During the 10-day program, the students visited various cultural and educational institutions such as the University and Museums and learned about the culture and history of the United States. Students also deepened exchanges with American students of the same age through homestay programs. Read More>>

TOMODACHI Boeing Keio SFC Entrepreneurship Seminar: U.S. Training in Hawaii
|
|
In late August, four students participated in the TOMODACHI Boeing Keio SFC Entrepreneurship Seminar in Oahu, Hawaii.
The training focused on "wellbeing," and students participated in fieldwork, lectures, presentations, and various hands-on activities to gain ideas for solving social issues. Participants exchanged opinions with local students at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. They learned about island history, culture, and issues of recent years from a staff member of Native Hawaiian roots. Read More>>

TOMODACHI J&J Disaster Nursing Training Program Held the U.S. Study Tour
|
|
As part of the TOMODACHI J&J Disaster Nursing Training Program, ten nursing students selected from across the country have completed in-person pre-training and online U.S. training in Disaster Medicine and Disaster Nursing. The practical training included group work and role-playing exercises. The online U.S. training included applying initial disaster response to a digital mannequin using a participatory app and a triage exercise using an actual disaster as a scenario. Read More>>

American High School Students in California Learned Leadership and Resiliency
|
|
11th TOMODACHI MUFG International Exchange Program theme is “Leadership and Resiliency.” High school students from California took three trainings and made friendships with Japanese students. Students learned about the history of Japanese Americans, and the Great East Japan Earthquake from TOMODACHI alumni sharing their experiences. Read More>>

Application deadline extended! The TOMODACHI-U.S. Embassy Go for Gold Sports Leadership Program for Japanese Undergraduate students seeking careers in the sports industry is open for application now. The program will provide Japanese university students the opportunity to deepen their understanding of sports management through a study tour in the United States and leadership training. It was established to complement the ongoing “Go for Gold” initiative, U.S.Embassy’s school outreach campaign pairing school visits with excitement for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The three components of the program are the virtual program, two-week travel to the United States, and a final presentation in Tokyo, Japan.
Application Deadline Extended: Friday, October 7, 2022.

Teruki Akao is an alumnus of the Building the TOMODACHI Generation: Morgan Stanley Ambassadors Program in 2016. He participated in the program and wanted to learn about Tohoku's post-disaster recovery. He now works as an international development consultant, mainly for Japanese Official Development Assistance (ODA), working on gender, health, and education projects in Malaysia, Bangladesh, and Cambodia. The U.S.-Japan Council (Japan) and the TOMODACHI Initiative are currently seeking interns. The internship offers an exciting environment where interns will be exposed to the non-profit, corporate, and government fields simultaneously. Responsibilities include creating and drafting documents, translation, website management, social media management, newsletter development support, public speaking, communication with program participants, designing presentations and posters, and event planning. Please note that this internship is unpaid.

The Social Media Intern will assist the Director of Programs and Partnerships for the U.S.-Japan Council and the TOMODACHI Alumni Coordinator in the area of social media and other marketing and communications for the TOMODACHI Initiative Alumni Leadership Program as needed. Reports to the Director of Programs and Partnerships for the U.S.-Japan Council. This position requires conveying and dispersing information from TOMODACHI Alumni Affairs to the TOMODACHI alumni community, as well as the broader U.S.-Japan Council community.
