Over 150 Participants from the U.S. and Japan Attended the Building the TOMODACHI Generation: Morgan Stanley Ambassadors Program Alumni Boot Camp
|
|
The Building the TOMODACHI Generation: Morgan Stanley Ambassadors Program Alumni Boot Camp took place between March to May 2021. 154 people, including staff, participated in the 8 sessions for TOMODACHI alumni.
Under normal circumstances, Japanese university students travel to the U.S. for two weeks as part of the Building the TOMODACHI Generation: Morgan Stanley Ambassadors Program. They undergo training in order to address social challenges in both Japanese and American societies respectively. However, due to the coronavirus, an online program open to all TOMODACHI alumni was offered this year instead. A wide range of topics was discussed in the sessions including career selection and skills that are useful in the workplace. The 2021 TOMODACHI RISE Leadership Program Kicked off with a Three-day Virtual Orientation
|
|
On March 20, 21, and 28, 2021, the TOMODACHI Alumni Regional Impact for Social Empowerment (RISE) Leadership Program kicked off with a three-day online orientation. Regional Leaders and Regional Mentors, selected from the TOMODACHI Alumni community from seven regions across Japan, attended the virtual workshop to gain valuable skills needed to identify and tackle social issues, create events, and bolster their regional alumni communities. This program is a year-long multipart leadership development program that focuses on social innovation at the local level. Read More>>

TOMODACHI Alumni Join the 23rd Business Advisory Board Meeting Featuring Dr. Kenji Shibuya to Discuss Global COVID-19 Response

On April 12, 2021, four TOMODACHI Alumni from different programs were invited to attend the online 23rd U.S.-Japan Council Business Advisory Board (BAB) Meeting. The event featured Dr. Kenji Shibuya (Professor and Director, University Institute for Population Health, King’s College London) as the keynote speaker. Over 40 industry leaders from diverse fields gathered to listen to his speech, titled “Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic: Lessons from Japan and Abroad,” marking the thirteenth time TOMODACHI Alumni were invited to join business executives as representatives of the future of U.S.-Japan leadership. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the launch of the TOMODACHI Initiative. On June 13, we will look back on the impact created by the TOMODACHI Generation and connect both Japanese and American alumni. The new 2021 Regional Leaders will be hosting and kicking off this virtual event as part of the TOMODACHI Alumni Regional Impact for Social Empowerment (RISE) Leadership Program.

Applications Open for the TOMODACHI J&J Disaster Nursing Program 2021
|
|
Recruitment is now open for nursing students in Japan for the TOMODACHI J&J Disaster Nursing Program 2021!
The goal of the TOMODACHI J&J Disaster Nursing Training Program is for the participants to help strengthen disaster nursing in Japan overall. Over approximately six months of training, participants are expected to acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to respond to disasters and emergencies, and play an active role in their respective regions as future leaders in the field of disaster nursing by sharing their knowledge with others.
This program, which was launched in 2015, was originally open to nursing students from Iwate, Miyagi, and Fukushima Prefectures. Participation is currently open to nursing students from all over Japan.

In 2013, the TOMODACHI Initiative in partnership with MetLife Japan launched the TOMODACHI MetLife Women’s Leadership Program (TMWLP) to develop the next generation of global female leaders.
The program aims to equip women with 21st century leadership skills, self-confidence, and the network required to successfully navigate their leadership journey in an ever-changing world.
With the global pandemic, this year’s program is shifting from face-to-face programming to an innovative virtual program. Maximizing digital technology, the participants will acquire skills and confidence to take on the world.

Applications Open for the TOMODACHI Lawson High School Women Career Mentoring Program in Tohoku
|
|
TOMODACHI Lawson High School Women Career Mentoring Program in Tohoku is an online program that provides career support for female high school sophomores and juniors from Iwate, Miyagi, and Fukushima Prefectures. The program lasts for five months, with five different steps. Through each step, the students will have the opportunity to take part in a workshop, to interact with international students and female professionals, and to discuss with the peers and give presentations for an audience. These steps allow the students to discover themselves and their possibilities in their future, while aiming for the development of leaders in the Tohoku region..

The U.S.-Japan Council (Japan) is looking for a qualified intern to support the TOMODACHI Alumni Leadership Program. The Program produces impactful and innovative programming for program participants who have experienced a TOMODACHI program to take the next step in their journey. We seek an intern who can assist the Alumni Manager and participate in various stages of engagement to support the next generation of leaders dedicated to the U.S.-Japan relationship. The intern hired for this position will need strong critical thinking skills and excellent attention to detail in order to integrate into our vibrant and passionate team. Be prepared to work in our fast-paced bilingual and bicultural working environment. You will finish this internship having gained a broad experience in various aspects of project management, marketing, social media, nonprofit, public-private partnerships and civic engagement.
