TOMODACHI Generation Attends the USJC-ACCJ Women in Business Summit

"I want every woman to notice their own potential and positively participate [in] society . . . I want to spread what I learned [from the WIB Summit presentations] to other women," said Haruka Satake, from Osaka. She and two of her TOMODACHI MetLife Women's Leadership Program (TMWLP) cohorts attended the Women in Business (WIB) Summit, co-hosted by the U.S.-Japan Council (USJC) and the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan (ACCJ), at the ANA Intercontinental Hotel in Tokyo on May 27. The Summit headlined by Prime Minister Abe, U.S. Ambassador Kennedy, and USJC President Irene Hirano Inouye, featured women leaders from a wide range of sectors, including USJC members and key partners, and discussed ways to improve conditions and representation of women in the private sector. It was centered around the theme of “Womenomics: Engine for Economic Growth”. More »

TOMODACHI Summer Coca-Cola Educational Homestay Program Alumni Gathering

On May 16, 2014, 16 alumni from the TOMODACHI Summer Coca-Cola Homestay Educational Program met with Coca-Cola Japan employees and several staff from the TOMODACHI Initiative at Coca-Cola Headquarters for a reunion. In this meeting, students gave speeches about their experiences in the United States and how the program had impacted their lives. More »

Proceeds from 14th Annual World Gardening Fair Donated to TOMODACHI

The 14th Annual World Gardening Fair at Hotel Okura Tokyo, featuring garden designs by the ambassadors and their spouses from 10 nations, was held from May 2-6. The event was designed to promote international exchange, and the ambassadors and their spouses created distinctive displays to express their respective cultures, traditions and history, as well as gardening trends. TOMODACHI charity boxes were placed throughout the hotel during the event, and a portion of the proceeds from the gardening fair was donated to the TOMODACHI Initiative. More »

Meet the 2014 TOMODACHI-Mitsui & Co. Leadership Program American Delegates

From May 16-17, ten American delegates representing Boston, Chicago/Detroit, Honolulu, Nashville, and the state of Texas met at the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles, California to attend an orientation program. The group will travel to Fukuoka and Tokyo during the week of June 23.
Generously funded by Mitsui & Co. Ltd., the TOMODACHI-Mitsui & Co. Leadership Program is designed to play an important role in building a “TOMODACHI Generation” of creative thinkers and driven doers who are invested in the future of U.S.-Japan relations, understand and appreciate cultural differences, and possess the globally oriented skills and mindsets needed to thrive and make a difference.
