TOMODACHI Innovations in Civic Participation (ICP) Collegiate Civic Engagement Program
The TOMODACHI Innovations in Civic Participation (ICP) Collegiate Civic Engagement Program has been launched by the U.S. Embassy Tokyo Public Affairs Section in which three Japanese universities (University of Tokyo, Tohoku University, and Okinawa International University) partnered with ICP to create new opportunities for young people to take more active roles in their communities. Washington, D.C.-based ICP is a global NGO leader in promoting sustainable development and social change through youth civic engagement.
For the first part of the program, three students from each of the three universities were selected to visit Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island to attend the Ashoka Conference from February 20-22, 2014.
This program aims to cultivate the next generation of civic leaders and social entrepreneurs in Japan while also establishing structures for sustained bilateral exchange between university students, faculty, and staff in multiple regions of Japan and the United States.
