From August 2nd - August 10th 2013, ten middle school and high school baseball players from Ofunato traveled to San Diego on an exchange which included playing baseball, attending MLB games, and engaging in other cultural activities. More » |

From July 11th – July 17th 2013, with the support of the Japan-America Society of Hawaii (JASH), eight Hawaiian students traveled to Onagawa, Miyagi Prefecture, to reunite with the Tohoku students who had gone to Hawaii last year on the reverse exchange. More » |

TOMODACHI-Mitsui & Co. Leadership Program |

From July 26th - August 3rd 2013, the TOMODACHI – Mitsui & Co. Leadership Program kicked off with ten American delegates hailing from Chicago, Detroit, Honolulu, San Jose, and Seattle traveling to Hiroshima and Tokyo to meet with various influential leaders in the government and business sectors. The American delegates participated in corporate and government meetings, as well as cultural events such as a Yakatabune river cruise including a Rakugo performance in English. On their last day, they attended an evening reception held at the residence of Deputy Chief of Mission Kurt Tong, and met their counterparts: ten Japanese delegates from Fukushima, Hiroshima, Okinawa, Saga, and Shizuoka, who will be traveling to the states in September 2013 on the second part of the Mitsui Program. From July 22nd - August 8th 2013, 119 Japanese students participated in the TOMODACHI Summer 2013 Coca-Cola Educational Homestay Program. The students first visited Washington, D.C. to tour historical sites and then Atlanta, Georgia to visit The World of Coca Cola before breaking up into six smaller groups to experience homestays in different parts of the United States. From July 22nd - August 12th 2013, 100 high school students from Tohoku participated in the TOMODACHI Summer 2013 SoftBank Leadership Program. In its second year, program took the students to the University of California, Berkeley to experience an intensive three-week course on global leadership development and community service. During the program, the students discussed with each other ways in which to strengthen their local communities by incorporating what they learned in the United States. More » |

From July 27th- July 29th 2013, 48 boys from Hawaii and Ishinomaki participated in the TOMODACHI U.S.-Japan Baseball Exchange Program, generously funded by aio Hawaii Chairman Duane Kurisu. Thank you Duane! In addition to participating in baseball games, the boys toured Ishinomaki and worked together with their chaperones to clean up a local beach.
