U.S. Senator Ben Cardin Dialogue with TOMODACHI Students
On May 31, 2013, U.S. Senator Ben Cardin met with 6 TOMODACHI Generation students at the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo. During the discussion, the Senator addressed a vast array of issues from international concerns in Syria and North Korea to the significance of young students studying in the U.S. “I never really spent the time to think about diplomatic issues until today,” said Kei Imai of Yokohama Science Frontier High School.
There were students that were inspired by their peers during the discussion as well. After the event, Jumpei Matsui, a student at Aoyama Gukuin Unviersity said, “It was great meeting Senator Ben Cardin. And it was awesome that I also got to know other Japanese students interested in foreign affairs.”
Near the end of the discussion, the Senator emphasized the essence of carrying out your “mission.” He asked everyone to become responsible citizens that make great contributions to society in the future.
