Ambassador Roos Roundtable with TOMODACHI Generation in Kesennuma

TOMODACHI Logo to Appear on ANA Planes
On May 23, 2013, U.S. Ambassador to Japan John V. Roos visited Kesennuma and spoke with ten local middle and high school students who participated in TOMODACHI programs last summer.  The students shared their experiences of visiting the United States and recounted how participation in the program has changed them.  More »

Tadashi Yanai, Marc Benioff, James Kondo among Japanese and U.S. Leaders Hopeful about the Next Generation

Top business executives, government officials and non-profit leaders convened at the U.S.-Japan Council’s Japan Symposium during the last week of May in Tokyo. The symposium focused on investing in the next generation of leaders from Japan and the United States and featured speakers including Fast Retailing’s CEO, Tadashi Yanai, and’s CEO, Mark Benioff. During the panel discussion, James Kondo, Managing Director, East Asia at Twitter, said "TOMODACHI is the best thing to happen to the Japanese education scene in a while."  More »

TOMODACHI NGO Leadership Program supported by J.P. Morgan

The TOMODACHI Initiative and J.P. Morgan have announced the TOMODACHI NGO Leadership Program supported by J.P. Morgan, which is a multi-year commitment to support capacity development of Japanese NGOs, building upon the lessons learned from the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011. The ongoing program kicked off this year when ten Japanese NGO leaders traveled to Washington, DC from April 28 – May 4 and had an opportunity to represent Japanese NGOs at the Annual InterAction Conference.  More »

American Dialogue featuring the TOMODACHI Initiative

On May 17, 2013, the U.S. Embassy hosted an “American Dialogue,” featuring the TOMODACHI Initiative.  Engaging with 60 high school and college student participants were TOMODACHI supporters Mayo Hotta, who oversees SoftBank’s corporate social responsibility department and Keiko Ihara, a Japanese Formula Three racecar driver.  More »

World Gardening Fair at Hotel Okura Tokyo for TOMODACHI

From May 1-5, 2013, Hotel Okura Tokyo hosted the World Gardening Fair, which showcased gardens designed by the wives of ambassadors stationed in Japan. Featured flowers originated from ten different countries around the world.
A portion of the proceeds from the gardening fair was donated to the TOMODACHI Initiative.  More »
