St. Louis-Ishinomaki Grassroots Exchange Program Departs Narita Airport
On August 28, 2013, five middle and high school students from Ishinomaki departed Narita Airport to visit the United States with the St. Louis-Ishinomaki Grassroots Exchange Program from August 28-September 5.
The TOMODACHI Initiative and American Airlines greeted participants and helped them check in before leading them to a conference room for a brief presentation. They listened to a briefing on their travel route and an overview of TOMODACHI Initiative programs. Students were given t-shirts, wristbands, baseball caps, and cookies.
Students will participate in homestays and take part in one of the oldest and biggest Japanese festivals in the United States. At the festival, they will set up a booth and display special goods from Tohoku area. Participants will introduce Japanese culture to the people of St.Louis and learn about life in the United States.
