During a wide-ranging discussion with the participants, the Secretary addressed topics such as international student exchange between Japan and the United States, environmental stewardship, entrepreneurship and innovation. TOMODACHI × NIKE GO GIRL PROJECT launched in Nagoya

The TOMODACHI Initiative and Nike Japan launched the “TOMODACHI x NIKE GO GIRL PROJECT,” which fosters friendship and bonding between young female Japanese and American collegiate athletes who will run together in events in both Japan and the United States. The March Nagoya Women's Marathon was their first event. More »

Students from TOMODACHI Programs attend the TOMODACHI BEYOND Tomorrow Global Leadership Academy 2013

Selected alumni from the TOMODACHI Summer 2012 Programs attended the TOMODACHI BEYOND Tomorrow Global Leadership Academy 2013 from March 8-10, 2013 in Tokyo. Thanks to the generous support of Bank of America Merrill Lynch, 70 students were chosen from among the 500 students who studied on a TOMODACHI Summer 2012 Program alumni to participate in a three-day workshop in which students discussed current global issues, and what youth can do to contribute to society. Many of our supporters joined the students for a moving closing luncheon. More »

TOMODACHI Burger Available in Wendy's Store Starting April 26

The TOMODACHI Initiative and Wendy’s Japan were proud to announce a special campaign to create a “TOMODACHI Burger” in Spring 2013. We were fortunate to receive 66 recipe submissions. We will reveal the winner on TOMODACHI YouTube from April 19. The “TOMODACHI Burger” will be sold at Wendy’s three Tokyo-area stores for six weeks beginning on April 26, 2013.

Students return from the TOMODACHI 2013 Spring Break Homestay Program

The TOMODACHI 2013 Spring Homestay Program provided 20 Japanese junior high and high school students from the areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami (from Fukushima, Miyagi, and Iwate Prefectures) with a homestay and cultural exchange opportunity. This homestay program took place in Northern Virginia from March 22-April 5, and was administered by BIEE. Through this program, students got to experience high school life in the United States and participate in various cultural exchange activities. More »

TOMODACHI Clinton Global Initiative University Fellows to the United States

Four Tomodachi Fellows were given the highly-coveted opportunity to participate in the sixth annual Clinton Global Initiative University (CGIU). They traveled to St. Louis, Missouri with generous support from Delta Airlines where they joined nearly 1,200 attendees to discuss education, the environment, human rights and other topics. CGIU's goal of engaging the next generation of leaders from college campuses around the world aligns with TOMODACHI's mission of supporting and nurturing emerging leaders from both sides of the Pacific. Representatives from the United Staes Embassy, TOMODACHI and Delta Airlines met the students at Narita Airport to provide encouragement before their trip to the United States. This special opportunity was set into motion after a February meeting between former President Bill Clinton and TOMODACHI youth in Osaka. More »

Deadline for receipt of Japan delegation application is June 21, 2013. TOMODACHI is seeking 20 outstanding young American and Japanese professionals from the business and government sectors to participate in the TOMODACHI-Mitsui & Co. Leadership Program. This program is designed to inspire and motivate the next generation of young American and Japanese leaders to be active in United States-Japan relations. More »
